Missing and Found Pets
Missing a pet is a traumatic event; sometimes overwhelming. Even finding a pet can be stressful. Where do you start? Who do you call? Where do you look? This page is designed to help with that search. The following are links that help in the search of missing and found pets. They help with getting the word that you have lost/found a pet, help you design posters, and help by contacting other groups and faxing notices to hospitals and shelters.
If you have found a pet, the first and easiest thing to do after checking for tags is check to see if has been microchipped. Most local shelters and veterinary hospitals are equipped with a scanner to scan for a number and are able to contact the company and track the owner. One site is devoted to just looking up microchips.
Hanging signs with the pets photo in the area (such as parks, grocery stores and other local high access areas) and at shelters and veterinary hospitals is a good way to gain exposure, and placing ad in the local papers is also helpful. Calling shelters, rescue groups, and hospitals and checking back weekly is also a good. Sometimes these places become overwhelmed and it is helpful for them if you keep in contact.
MissingPet911
Missingpet911.com is a website promoting the reunification of missing
pets with their families. We are dedicated to vigorously promoting and
educating the community about the importance of a central database of
lost and found pets. Our initial focus is Fairfield County, CT
Pet Microchip ID Lookup
A free microchip lookup ID site to help reunite owners and pets.
Home Again
HomeAgain is an advanced lost pet
recovery service dedicated to the
safety and well-being of your pet. Our system is best utilized when a
microchip with a unique ID number is injected between the shoulder
blades of your pet, which can be done by a veterinarian if your pet is
not already microchipped. Once your pet is microchipped, the next step
is to enroll your pet's microchip ID, description, and photo, along
with your contact information, in HomeAgain's pet database, which is
critical to reuniting you immediately with your lost pet once he is
found.
AVID
The microchip is a tiny computer chip which has an identification
number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible
material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic
needle and can be simply injected under the skin of our pets, where it
will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent,
positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally
removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet
against loss or theft.
The Center for Lost Pets
The Center for Lost Pets was created by a team of
dedicated specialists: shelter managers, natural disaster and safety
experts, veterinarians and a variety of go-to gurus on all things pets.
Together with some of high-tech's most talented
programmers, software developers and Web designers, we set out to
achieve a very ambitious and worthwhile goal - to create one central
location where people who have lost and found pets can connect. And all
along the way, we were driven by one shared inspiration - the pets we
love.
